George Heitzman purchased his first Boxer in 1951 and his first Doberman Pinscher (which was to become his breed) in 1952.
He served two years as the President of the Western Pennsylvania Doberman Pinscher Club and started handling professionally as an all-breed handler in 1953. He retired from handling after 32 years in 1985. During that span he has owned Dobermans, Boxers, Siberans, Alaskan Malamutes, Afghans, Dachshunds, Whippets, Cairn Terriers, Boston Terriers, Dalmatians and Pembroke Wesh Corgis.
He was approved to judge by the American Kennel Club in 1986 and is approved to judge all Sporting dogs and the Sporting Group, all Working dogs and the Working Group, all Herding dogs and the Herding Group, Afghans, Basenjis, Black & Tan Coonhounds, Borzois, Dachshunds, American and English Foxhounds, Salukis, Chinese Shar-Peis, Junir Showmanship and BIS.
