Mary Diesem lives in Rexford, NY with ten Setters and occasional puppies. She has bred about 64 litters, producing many healthy award winning pups. She taught for 26 years, during which time she also began breeding and judging.
She has judged Obedience since about 1980, and breed since about 1989. She has judged Australian Shepherds for ASCA for 10 years before they were accepted into the AKC.
Mrs. Diesem had the #1, #3 and #5 Irish Setters in Obedience in 1989 and 1990. She has collected about 76 Obedience titles and 40 Breed titles. Under the kennel name, "Devlin," (after the Irish Revolutionary, Bernadette Devlin) she has been a breeder of Irish, English and Gordon Setters for about 26 years and has been the breeder of a number of Specialty and Group winners, both in the U.S. and Canada. One bitch bred by the Diesems went WB at the 1996 ISCA Specialty, being the youngest bitch ever to do so, and winning an Award of Merit. Her brother, in 1997, won the Golden Leash Award, and an Award of Merit. In 1997, Mary and Lee Diesem won the Litter Breeder award of the ISCA.
Mrs. Diesem was also the breeder of the dog who went BOS at the Irish Setter National Specialty in Florida in 1999 and then won a Master Hunter title a week later.
Mrs. Diesem judges the Sporting Group. She has also written numerous published articles and given talks on all classes of Obedience and Rally, and has done numerous specialties, including many in Irish Setters, Goldens, an English Setter National in Canada, assignments in Puerto Rico, and she has judged complete Gundog Specialties in both North and South Island of New Zealand. Her present Irish stud has finished in 4 Irish Setter Specialties.
She has also given numerous talks, and written many published articles on Setters and Obedience.
