Donelle has always had a passion for dogs. Beginning as a junior handler, her family owned and showed Samoyeds. The first breed she personally owned was a Cocker Spaniel. Her father was an all breed professional handler in the Pacific Northwest. From him she learned her beginning handling skills and also acquired her love for Pugs. She and her husband Del purchaed their first Pug in 1965 when they moved to San Jose, California. They became active in conformation showing and obedience training. In 1968, they acquired a Borzoi and started to open field and lure course in addition to showing and training.
In 1971, Donnelle was licensed by AKC to handle dogs and was approved as an all-breed AKC handler in 1976. Having shown and finished champions in breeds from every group, she remained an all-breed handler until she retired in 1999 and became an AKC approved judge.
In 1972, Donnelle joined the Borzoi Club of America of which she is a "Life Member". She has been a member of the Pug Dog Club of America since 1970 and is a founding member of the Northern California Pug Club. She is currently on the Judges Education Committee for the Pug Dog Club of America.
Donnelle is approved by AKC to judge all Hound Breeds, Hound Group and 10 Toy Breeds. She is also approved to judge Junior Showmanship (all breed).
