J. Donald Jones has been judging dogs for 30 years. His original breeds were Doberman Pinschers, German Shepherd Dogs, Miniature Pinschers, Schipperkes and Pembroke Welsh Corgis. He owned and showed a Best in Show Corgi and owned the top winning Schipperke in the history of the breed.
His judging was a natural development from breeding and showing dogs. He handled his own dogs and also used professional handlers. His dog activities developed from his lifetime involvement with animals. "My first judging was livestock -- beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine and horses." He was taught livestock judging in college and also showed livestock and exhibited several Regional Grand Champions. He also showed horses (hunters and jumpers) for a number of years.
By academic training Mr. Jones is a counseling psychologist. His professional life has been devoted to teaching, coaching athletics, counseling and university administration. He served as a Student Personnel Dean at Emory University in Atlanta for 20 years and was able to take early retirement several years ago. At present he manages his own personal business and financial affairs and travels extensively to judge dog shows.
His judging activities have taken him all over the U.S., Canada, South America, Trinidad, Dominican Republic, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica and Thailand.
